❌ No more hashtags
Focus on the content instead
Estimated reading time: 2 minutes and 20 seconds
Hello friends, welcome to another edition of doyousocial!
Today, we will focus on hashtags on Instagram and why you should not use them.
Is everyone ready?
Let’s dive in.
A few months ago, Adam Mosseri (Instagram’s CEO) mentioned that hashtags do not work if you are using them to get reach, likes, or followers.
Everyone was shocked!
Wait, what?
Yep, this is true, and it was confirmed again by him in a recent interview (see full video here).
He recommends creating content that resonates on the platform and always staying true to yourself.
Easier said than done, right?
However, I believe he wants to give us some guidance and encourage people to focus on the content instead of trends, hacks, or whatever comes to mind when you think about Instagram growth.
Your main goal on the platform is to create content that your audience will enjoy, not to spend a lot of time finding 30 hashtags to use on each post.
And also, posts with loads of hashtags just don’t look good.
So, what are hashtags good for?
The simple answer is to categorize the content.
People can still find content based on their interests by looking at particular hashtags.
Sure, you might get some growth from that, but this is not a long-term strategy.
Let me give you a quick tip on how to create content that stands out.
Come up with 10 great ideas that will be recorded as videos.
Out of these 10 videos, you can create 10 text-based posts for Threads, X, and Facebook + Instagram using photos.
Out of these 10 text posts, you can design “quote”-like photos in Canva and create another set of posts that have the same idea as your text-based photos.
Publish everything and check your analytics to understand what type of content performed best and why.
Is it because the messaging was delivered in a particular format (text, photo, video)?
Or is it the way you packaged everything?
This exercise can help you understand your audience better, and you can identify pieces of content that are doing really well.
Feel free to send this to your social media manager for inspiration.
Digital Marketing Simplified
Why do website visitors leave?
If people leave your site too quickly, it’s usually due to:
1️⃣ Slow Load Time – If your site takes over 3 seconds to load, visitors won’t wait. Use Google PageSpeed Insights to check speed.
2️⃣ Confusing Design – Make it clear who you are, what you offer, and what to do next. Simple navigation and strong CTAs help.
3️⃣ Low Engagement – Break up text, add visuals, and consider using video to keep visitors interested.
Small tweaks = more time on site = more customers! 🚀
Good to know:
Instagram is testing an option to rearrange profile grids. So many people were upset after the recent update!
Bluesky has hit 30M users. Are you active on this platform? If not, you should check it out.
Threads has reached 320M active users. Text-based platforms are here to stay, and you should take advantage of that.
