Hey friends, hope you are having a great week so far!

Today we talk about an interesting topic that’s been our attention for a very long time, and that’s online reviews.

Let’s dive in.

Many business owners are considering fake reviews to launch the perfect product or service.

Perhaps they want to improve their reputation on social media or Google My Business profile, which is understandable.

HOWEVER, this practice is now officially banned by the FTC in the US.

No more fake reviews moving forward.

You are not allowed to:

  • Buy reviews.

  • Artificially increase your social media with fake followers or inflate view counts (I’m assuming this affects fake likes as well).

  • Use AI reviews.

  • Misrepresent a customer’s experience in your reviews.

  • Suppress negative reviews.

It’s also prohibited to use intimidating tactics in order to receive positive reviews.

The purpose of this change is to make online shopping safer for everyone and ensure fair marketplaces.

It’s a good change, and people who have done things right will only benefit from this.

It’s a known fact that Google can detect fake reviews, and they will not be published.

It will be interesting to see how this change will affect the market overall.

Good to know:

  • Meta: Facebook is introducing facial recognition technology to spot and delete ads using fake celebrity endorsements.

  • Instagram: Adam Mosseri (the CEO of Instagram) recommends posting carousels to increase reach.

  • Google: The ad campaign prioritization is changing, and now ad rank is the most important. Before this, Performance Max campaigns automatically took priority over Standard Shopping campaigns.
